Summer's Bounty

We have been getting a weekly share from a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) farm. That means that you pay the farm ahead of time for the entire season, and every week you get lovely fresh organic veggies, fruit and herbs to play around in the kitchen with. This was this week's share. There's another broken myth for you - food in America is not only McBurger and Fries! :)

On the photos are some of my favorite veggies and fruits too!

Look at all of those colours - what a beautiful photo. Some of the farmers at the Madison market had their farms flooded by all the rain we've been having - pretty sad.

What a brilliant idea that is! I think it could have a lot of potential here in South Africa - there have been a few initiatives to get unemployed people growing vegetables for sale so that they can provide financially for themselves and their families. This system could work really well for these people. Do you get a fixed quantity of produce each week? Maybe you could email me on info@redballoon.co.za with the details?

Victoria,
It's really good stuff - I've eaten the best cantaloupe I've ever had -and more veggies than ever before this summer!
Keropok Man,
Ahh.. I'd love to swap veggies for your garlic chive dumpling..
Chris,
I'm sorry to hear that. I hope the farmers receive some kind of assistance when their harvest fails. I think it must be hard to be a small farmer these days, too many giant super-sized farms out there, and going organic is costly.
Kerry-Anne,
I couldn't agree more, it's great! I'll send you some info!
